Today, the utilization rate of cutting tools is steadily increasing. However, the vast majority of cutting tools internationally are still conventional tools—tools that generally suffer from poor safety performance and low usage frequency, among other shortcomings. This underscores the urgent need for AMADA’s tool development to shift toward CNC-based advancements. After conventional cutting tools undergo CNC conversion and modernization, their machining frequency, as well as their levels of automation and intelligence, can be significantly enhanced. This reduces the likelihood of operators coming into contact with hazardous areas. Moreover, the operating systems and user interfaces are increasingly designed in accordance with ergonomic principles, effectively minimizing operator errors and the associated risks of accidents. Once tools are upgraded through CNC conversion, their safety features are markedly improved, and accident rates drop significantly, yielding substantial safety benefits. Additionally, CNC conversion helps reduce tool costs and boost machining efficiency. Compared to purchasing new tools, CNC conversion of conventional AMADA tools—especially heavy-duty and specialized bending machine tools—is particularly cost-effective. Typically, the cost of upgrading a heavy-duty tool through CNC conversion amounts to only one-third of the expense of buying a new tool. While saving on costs, CNC conversion also helps cut down on energy consumption and pollutant emissions caused by full-scale tool replacements.
Based on past experience with technological upgrades, after CNC conversion of cutting tools, the frequency of tool usage has significantly increased. Previously, a single operator was required to manage one tool; after the upgrade, a single worker can now simultaneously control two tools. At the same time, the precision of machining has greatly improved following the tool upgrade, and the yield rate—previously affected by human error—has markedly risen. Concurrently, the physical workload for workers has been reduced, labor resources have been saved, and both the lead time for new product development and the overall production cycle have been shortened, bringing substantial economic benefits to enterprises. Looking at overseas best practices, remanufacturing is the most effective approach for reusing CNC tools. The remanufacturing of CNC tools involves combining technological innovation with skill enhancement, integrating the upgrading of conventional assets with the development of new ones, focusing on both targeted improvements and comprehensive upgrades, and taking the promotion of safe production as the primary objective of technological innovation. In China, the remanufacturing sector is just beginning to emerge, yet it already boasts a huge market potential.
